Pet X-rays
Digital Radiology to
Diagnose Health Conditions
X-rays are a safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool used to assess your pet’s internal health. At Just For Pets Animal Hospital, we utilize digital full-body X-rays to quickly and accurately diagnose health conditions in your pet. With in-house digital radiology capabilities, our team can provide faster and more precise treatment plans whether your pet has an injury, an internal issue, or is experiencing unexplained discomfort.

What You Should Know: Veterinary Radiology
X-rays are a very useful part of veterinary diagnostics. Our veterinarians use radiology when needed to view images of the internal structures of your four-legged companion.
How do digital X-rays work?
X-rays use low doses of radiation to create detailed images of bones and organs. These images can be used by veterinarians to diagnose fractures, joint issues, foreign objects, and internal abnormalities.
What conditions are X-rays used to diagnose in pets?
X-rays are commonly used to detect broken bones, arthritis, tumors, swallowed objects, lung conditions, and digestive obstructions.
Are digital X-rays better than traditional X-rays?
Yes! Digital X-rays provide clearer images, faster results, and lower radiation exposure, making them a safer and more effective diagnostic tool.
Will my pet need to be sedated for an X-ray?
Likely not. X-rays are a routine and low-risk diagnostic procedure. In most cases, no sedation is needed unless your pet is unable to remain still.

Understanding what to expect during an X-ray appointment can put pet owners at ease.
Your pet will be brought into the X-ray room and gently positioned. Images will be taken using digital radiography. Digital X-rays enable our veterinarians to see results almost immediately for fast diagnosis. Once the images are reviewed, we will discuss the results with you and determine the next steps for your pet’s care.
If your pet is receiving dental X-rays as part of their teeth cleaning, those will be performed under anesthesia during their cleaning. Any findings will be discussed during pick-up unless we see signs that a tooth should be removed, in which case you will be contacted during your fur kid’s cleaning.
Are X-rays safe for cats and dogs?
Pet parents often ask about the safety of X-rays, and we are happy to reassure you that they are a safe and valuable diagnostic tool.
- Low Radiation Exposure: Modern digital X-rays use minimal radiation while producing highly detailed images.
- Non-Invasive Procedure: No surgery or incisions are required, making it a low-stress experience for pets.
- Sedation Only If Necessary: In most cases, pets can remain awake during X-rays, reducing any potential risks.
